Inventory Lists in Dash

Past blog postings have covered many aspects of the DSCI customer portal. This week, I’m going to highlight the inventory lists that can be found in the system and provide additional details about one of them — the assets. Future posts will expand on the other items.

Users that are authorized to view the “operations” information for a DSCI customer can view the following content:

  • Assets: the actual devices that are part of your DSCI service.
  • Circuits: the circuits that connect your location(s) to the DSCI network.
  • IP addresses: the public and private IP addresses that are part of your network configuration.
  • Telephone numbers: all of the numbers associated to your company.

When you log into the DSCI portal — Dash — these four links (along with some others) are listed in the “Additional Information” section on the left-side of the page (near the bottom).  Clicking on any one of these links will provide you with a complete list.

Focusing on the Assets page, there are two sections: “Asset Summary” and “Detailed Information”. The Asset Summary section displays a list of all of the different types of equipment along with a quantity number.  For example, if you are a Converged iPBX customer with five locations, you’ll see five routers and all of the different iPBX phone model types (ex. perhaps, 40 Polycom SoundPoint 550s, 50 Polycom SoundPoint 650, 25 Polycom VVX 1500s, and some others). Beneath the summary section, the Detailed Information will list each of those individual devices, along with details such as the full manufacturer and model number, serial number, DSCI asset tag number, and date of installation.

Now, let’s say that you would like to view a list of assets by location. No problem! Simply click on the “Addresses” link on the left side of the page, then select your target address. For example, suppose you want to check out your sales office in Springfield, MA. Its address page in Dash has three tabs: “Main”, “Items”, and “Map”.  Click on the Items tab and you’ll see the active orders and troubles for that location, plus you’ll see all of its assets. Being able to quickly access this type of information can help with office moves, expansion and more.
